Independent forecourt operator Rontec is proposing to demolish a toilet that was previously valued at £100,000.
The firm has applied for planning permission to knock down the public facilities in order to add five parking spaces to its adjacent Northwich Road forecourt in Weaverham, Cheshire.
The toilet block was closed by Cheshire West and Chester Council in the 2010s due to anti-social behaviour, and the site has since been subject to significant speculation.
It sold to an anonymous bidder at a 2021 auction for six times its £10,000 guide, achieving £61,000 – a price no doubt bolstered by the fact that planning permission had been granted to extend the block into a 500sq ft office building.
Those plans failed to materialise and the WC was offered for sale for £100,000 in 2024 – though it failed to attract a buyer to spend a penny on it at that time.
Rontec has since acquired the rights to develop the loo, and has applied to the local authority to replace it with four conventional and one disabled parking space to serve the filling station.
If the firm’s proposals are approved, Rontec will add acoustic fencing to shield neighbouring homes from the parking bays’ associated noise, while the forecourt’s vent pipes will have to be relocated.
