A Gulf liveried forecourt four miles to the east of Truro has been bought by Samy Group, which operates 64 convenience stores and has been steadily building up its forecourt position.
Earlier in the year Samy Group secured a £15m funding package from HSBC to back its expansion plans, with the firm previously focussing on the Midlands and the North.
As of May, Samy Group operates 64 convenience store and 16 forecourts, nine of which it commission operates and seven of which it owns, with the Cornish addition bringing the latter total to at least eight.
The four-pump Probus School Filling Station features two jet-wash bays alongside a convenience store with a Post Office counter, and was sold after being advertised with an asking price of £2.5m.
A Samy Group spokesperson describes the forecourt as “a strategically located site that strengthens our forecourt presence and provides a springboard for further growth in the South West, supporting our continued programme of disciplined expansion”.
They add: “Probus represents a strong addition to our portfolio, and we look forward to delivering the commercial enhancements identified during our diligence as the site is integrated into the Samy Group estate.”
The site was a retirement sale by previous owners Shaun and Vicky Poore, with the forecourt having been in the same family for more than six decades. The Poores thank their staff and customers for their support over the years
Matthew McFarlane from Christie & Co, which brokered the deal, describes Probus as “well presented and highly profitable”, and thanked the Poores for choosing his firm, commenting: “As a family-owned business for many years, selling an asset of this type was a new experience for them, so we worked closely to secure a solid buyer that would suit the site perfectly.”
