Customers at a service station on the M62 corridor that is currently being refurbished are being urged to have their say on what local produce they would like to see stocked on the shelves – pushing the site’s retail offering to 150 local products.
Top 50 Indie Sewell on the go is four weeks away from reopening the new £1.5m site at South Cave, in Yorkshire, providing local residents and commuters with a one-stop-shop for all their grocery needs.
In support of local trading and businesses, the 24-hour service station will stock more than 100 locally-made products, including ale, eggs, bread, snack and cereal bars, and confectionary.
Now, Sewell on the go has launched a campaign to encourage customers and suppliers to share what extra products they would like to be made available when the service station opens in the week commencing November 9.
Patrick Sewell, managing director of Sewell on the go, said: “We would like to hear from our valued customers and suppliers what they would like to see on the shelves.
“Our core groceries from Yorkshire-based suppliers already stand at about 120. But we’d really like to push it to 150 to maximise the offering for our customers and provide them with increased choice.
“As a local business, we feel it’s important to support other local businesses and differentiate ourselves from the corporate supermarkets.
“This campaign is part of the reopening celebrations at South Cave and it would be fantastic for the public to get involved.”
Wold Top Brewery in Driffield is among the local suppliers used by Sewell on the go, with a variety of beers in the range at South Cave service station.
Patrick said: “Wold Top Brewery is recognised for how good they are nationally, if not internationally, and they are just a few miles from our doorstep in South Cave. The products we stock are bespoke and made with love, rather than on a factory conveyor belt.”
Gill Mellor, director at Wold Top Brewery, said the partnership with Sewell on the go is positive for all involved and encouraged customers to have their say on which products they’d like to see in store.
She said: “Petrol forecourt shops are the ideal local route to market for Wold Top, with easy access for delivery and customers, long opening hours and easy parking, so no distance to carry heavy goods like bottled beers.
“When they’re locally owned too, it’s a win win situation, and this is a great campaign for members of the public to get involved in. The partnership we have with Sewell on the go is fantastic and, for us, there is a real future in convenience stores such as South Cave.”
Sewell Construction, sister company to Sewell on the go, started work on the service station site in June and the existing retail floorspace will double in size to 200sq m, including a café area, as well as a kitchen area for preparation of hot food.
The location of the new store is positioned on the eastern side of the forecourt and has a slimmer canopy to accommodate the new arrangement of the pumps, where up to eight cars can access fuel at any one time.
As part of the project, there will be a significant increase in the number of parking spaces to 25 and improved access to the forecourt, as well as a Costa, and a Subway is planned to open in late 2015.
