Work has begun on a knockdown rebuild of Shell Playing Place on the A39 near Truro.
According to Cornwall Live, the site has already been reduced to rubble.
An initial planning application was approved by Cornwall Council early last year but since then an updated application from Shell has been approved.
The redevelopment will include a bigger shop, a new forecourt area for cars and HGVs, new underground fuel tanks, pumps and canopies, car parking and an EV charging hub.
There were several conditions attached to the planning consent including the erection of a screen to ensure HGV drivers cannot see into the homes of those living nearby. The screen has to be kept in place until any planted trees or shrubs have matured enough to provide screening.
Cornwall Council’s report on Shell’s proposals said: “The proposed development will preserve the character of the area and is of an appropriate design and scale for a replacement petrol station with retail outlet.”
