Shell wants to add EV bays and rebuild the shop at the Warwickshire forecourt

Oil major Shell must be hoping the third time’s a charm after it submitted a trio of applications to Warwick District Council regarding the proposed renovation of a filling station in the town.

In April 2024 Shell applied for planning permission to redevelop its Hatton service station, with the firm wanting to knock down, move and enlarge the forecourt shop, install four EV charging bays and formalise parking arrangements on site.

Those plans were subsequently approved by the council, but in August of the same year the firm applied to alter its proposals, moving the parking bays in its plans to avoid “potential conflicts with vehicles parking and those exiting the site”, while also moving the shop building slightly so that it would sit further away from the site boundary and protected trees.

Those changes were approved by Warwick District Council on 1 September of this year, but just eight days later Shell again wrote to the council, informing the authority that it had conducted “a further design review”, and is now seeking to install six, rather than four EV bays.

The firm now also wants to change the location of the tank vent pipes, the air/water bay and the tanker fill points, while also altering the internal layout and door position of the kiosk shop over what was originally proposed  – though this last aspect does not require permission as building elevations will remain unchanged.
