A filling station on the A14 trunk road between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds is set to be upgraded with a standalone HGV refuelling facility.
Plans submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council indicate the owners of Tothill Services, which sits on a four-acre plot, want to demolish an existing car wash and, in its place, install four pump islands and an AdBlue dispenser for the exclusive use of HGVs.
Should the authority give the project the go ahead, the new pumps will be covered by a 28m by 8m canopy, with two fuel tanks – one holding 60,000 litres and the other 75,000 litres – installed under the ground where a rollover car wash currently sits.
A 15,000-litre above-ground AdBlue tank is also included in the project’s scope, while dedicated HGV parking bays will be added, alongside new parking spaces for customers’ cars – though the main forecourt and its shop will remain as is.
The council is expected to rule on the plans in early May.
