A Top 50 Indie has made a major contribution to its local community after being presented with a £500 Kingsmill Community Retailer award.
Hazlegrove Services, at Sparkford, near Yeovil, Somerset, which is owned by Chartman, was presented with the award to help fund the community’s acquisition of a defibrillator. The device will be housed at the site, allowing 24-hour access for the community.
With the Kingsmill award, and a further £121 raised by a charity car wash, Hazlegrove Services is well on the way to helping Sparkford Neighbourhood Watch group reach its £1,000 target. The group is aiming to have the defibrillator up and running by Christmas, and 15 local people have already been trained to use it.
Clive Sheppard, director of Chartman which was ranked 33 in this year’s Forecourt Trader Top 50 Indies, said: “We were thrilled to receive the award in recognition of our links with the local community. This has enabled us to help the local Community Watch group deliver a valuable project with the legacy of an important resource to support people with potentially life threatening difficulties.”
The Kingsmill Community Retailer award competition, which received more than 100 entries, was designed to help retailers get community projects off the ground.
