Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has opened a new MFG EV Power charging hub at the firm’s Marlborough Road forecourt in Swindon, Wilts.
In addition to her ministerial role Alexander is also the MP for Swindon South, and it was in this capacity she attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of MFG’s five new ultra-rapid (150kW+) charging bays at the Shell branded filling station.
In 2021 MFG announced it was putting £400m into EV charging with a view to having over 3,000 ultra-rapid chargers by the end of the decade.
The firm already has around 1,300 150kW+ chargepoints across 522 locations making it one of the larger providers in the country, with roughly 14% of the 9,669 ultra-rapid public chargepoints in the UK based on data from Zapmap.
MFG’s relatively late entrance into the sector means it has no legacy devices to replace, and from day one has been able to opt for the 150kW+ devices that have since become the industry standard for public hubs. The firm also owns the land on which its chargers sit, placing it at an advantage over many providers who must pay ground rents before they can consider drawing profit.
The EV Power network recently placed second in Zapmap’s customer satisfaction survey for firms with over 500 devices, behind only Tesla.
