The car park to the rear of the police station will now become a charging hub

Some have cited the conversion of former petrol stations into EV hubs as emblematic of societal changes, but a closed-down police station car park becoming an EV charging station is arguably no less telling.

That’s the fate that has befallen the car park at the former nick in Buckley, North East Wales, with the station having closed in 2017 when its officers were relocated to the local fire station.

Now, Flintshire Council has approved plans for a 14-bay EV charging hub to be constructed in the police station car park, which will be kitted out with lined bays and chargers.

Planning documents indicate these will be 7kW wall-mounted units rather than ultra-rapid freestanding devices, making the site a ‘destination’ station for local residents, rather than a conventional hub for en-route ‘splash and dash’ recharging sessions.

As for the police station itself, planning permission was recently granted for that to be converted into five flats.
