As the festive season heads into the home stretch, remember to remind your staff that there will be more strangers, and dangers, around. Some of the bounty that makes up Christmas will come in the form of back-of-lorry offers and freshly-minted dud notes and dodgy plastic from the unwanted customer.

And here are a couple of reminders about the less familiar aspects of Christmas trading. If you add liqueur chocs to your range this year, remember that they come with a minimum age attached (16 years). If you want to play music in-store you’ll need a licence from the Performing Rights Society (0800 068 4828) and if you’re putting toys on the shelf, make sure they conform with the toy safety regulations.

Don’t forget to publicise your trading hours to draw in the law-abiding punters and have a safe and prosperous season. Good cheer.
