Inverclyde Council has given planning permission for two roller shutter doors to be fitted to a building in Greenock to enable it to operate as a hand car wash.
The site is part (4,994sq ft) of a larger vacant industrial building located between Clarence Street and Crawfurd Street in Greenock. It was formerly occupied by the offices and printing facilities of the Greenock Telegraph. The premises comprises a two-storey office building to the south-west facing Crawfurd Street and an adjoining portal-framed, profiled steel-clad building facing a private car park to the north-east. Vehicular access to the car park is from Hood Street.
In 2021, planning permission was granted to divide the large business into four smaller business units. The latest permission allows for the installation of two roller shutter doors, one facing Hood Street and one facing onto the car-parking area.
When granting permission, the Council said the applicant – Arkan Salah – had to ensure all surface water flows are to be contained within the site and limited to that of green-field run-off, to avoid any flood risk.
In addition, prior to the start of any construction works on site, the developer must provide full details of the finishing materials and colour of the roller shutter doors.
