Duracell is moving into electric vehicle charging with a nationwide network of ultra-fast stations featuring the black and gold branding of the well-known battery brand.
It is launching Duracell E-Charge, with new to market chargepoint operator Elektra Charge, which will run the network, and infrastructure developer The EV Network (EVN), which will develop and fund the charging hubs.
The first six sites will go live in 2025, with rapid expansion throughout 2026 and beyond, in an investment of more than £200 million planned over the next decade.
The network will focus on strategic locations including motorways, retail and hospitality venues, and city gateways. Duracell E-Charge sites will feature “intuitive user interfaces, clear navigation and 24/7 support”, with charging up to 1,000kW – ensuring charging is fast, simple and dependable, say the partners.
It will focus on offering “consistently high uptime”, clear, transparent pricing and multiple payment options, from an app to contactless to plug-and-go.
The EV Network’s chief executive Reza Shaybani says that Duracell E-Charge is responding to a need in the UK for more reliable charging keeping pace with electric vehicle adoption. “The EV Network has already delivered some of the UK’s biggest charging hubs, and now we’re bringing that expertise to one of the world’s most recognised brands,” he says.
EVN’s managing director Mark Bloxham adds: “Charging your car should be as simple as changing the batteries in your remote. Duracell E-Charge provides convenience without compromise and chargers where and when you need them. Plug. Play. Go.”
Duracell’s chief marketing officer Javier Hernandez Reta adds: “Duracell has always been a trusted companion in people’s lives, delivering long-lasting performance, uncompromising safety and a commitment to sustainability. For decades, consumers have relied on us to go the extra mile. Today, electric vehicle drivers can travel even further, confidently and sustainably, with Duracell E-Charge leading the way.”
