Niall Clarke Oils has submitted a planning application for a knockdown rebuild of its Circle K Express site on Belfast Road, Newry.
The company wants to demolish the existing petrol filling station and other site buildings and replace them with a new forecourt and shop with a service yard, parking and landscaping.
The proposed forecourt will comprise eight fuel pumps (four stations serving cars on either side) to service cars and light goods vehicles. In addition, there will be one HGV pump located parallel to the road to help improve manoeuvring on the site.
The proposed shop building will have a 745.6sqm gross internal floor area which will house a retail unit, hot food area and butchery prep area with ancillary stores, offices/staff room, WCs and plant rooms.
The space will be split into 456.6sqm for the shop, 78.4sqm for hot food and 52.5sqm for the butchery prep area.
Outside, there will be a total of 61 car parking spaces, with provision made for disabled parking and EV charging. The existing site has just 29 car parking spaces. Dedicated cycle parking spaces are proposed outside the shop. In addition, a covered outdoor seating area is planned along the side of the shop.
