Bioethanol development company Green Spirit Fuels has won an award for business innovation at the third annual Regen SW Green Energy Awards, which highlight the best projects and practice in renewable energy in the South West.

The company plans to build and operate bioethanol plants across the UK and has set a target to produce 700,000 tonnes a year by 2012. The first plant is being built in Henstridge, Somerset, with plans for a second in Humberside.

Regen SW receives its core funding from the South West of England Regional Development Agency and is the renewable energy agency for that area.
