Martin was arrested for one offence of theft, and was subsequently linked to seven others

A 46-year-old man is awaiting sentence after being found guilty of eight counts of theft from a BP filling station in west London.

Clive Martin, described by the Metropolitan Police as a “prolific shoplifter”, was arrested thanks to “targeted proactive policing” undertaken by the force as it seeks to tackle retail crime.

Following his arrest, investigating officers linked Martin to eight separate thefts at the same store, which saw him take goods with a value of £1,600.

He was found guilty at Ealing Magistrates’ Court and will be sentenced at a later date.

PC Wheeler from the Metropolitan Police comments: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. Repeat offending has a significant impact on businesses, staff and the wider community.

“This outcome demonstrates our commitment to identifying prolific offenders and ensuring they are brought before the courts. We will continue to work closely with retailers to tackle those responsible and make North Acton a safer place to live and work.”
