The suspected getaway vehicle was distinctive because of its colour, its lack of number plates, and the fact it was later set on fire

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted forecourt robbery that saw a member of staff assaulted and the getaway vehicle set ablaze.

Officers from Merseyside Police were called to the Essar forecourt on Sefton Street in the Toxteth area of Liverpool at around 3pm on Tuesday, October 6 after two masked men pushed a female member of staff and repeatedly punched a male one before attempting to break into the site’s office.

The men escaped in a green Ford Puma driven by a third man, with the getaway vehicle having no number plates, and being found a short while after the attempted robbery having been set on fire a couple of streets away from the forecourt.

While one person has been arrested and subsequently bailed in connection with the incident, officers are still searching for two other people.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Stratton comments: “The offenders in this case have shown a complete disregard for staff who were simply trying to earn an honest living, and left one requiring hospital treatment.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw any part of this incident to contact us.

“If you saw a green Ford Puma being driven in a suspicious manner before or after the incident, or three males running from the car in the Hill Street area, we urge you to contact us.

“We want to bring all three perpetrators to justice and information or footage you provide could be the key to helping bring justice for the victims in this case.”

Merseyside Police can be contacted online, by calling 101 or via Crimestoppers, quoting reference 26000821488.
