EV chargers will replace two valeting bays and also require the forecourt’s vent pipes to be relocated

Local authorities have granted Shell planning permission to install six EV charging bays at a forecourt in Leicester, with the chargers sitting on land currently occupied by a jet wash and separate car-care bay.

The chargers will also require the site’s vent pipes to be moved, with these to be relocated in front of an automated car wash. The rollover is otherwise unaffected by the plans, and will continue to offer a valeting facility at the site, which sits to the south-west of Leicester city centre.

While the valeting bays will be a thing of the past once work has been completed, a new vacuum machine will be installed in parking bays next to the rollover, while an existing air/water machine in one these bays will remain in place.

Shell previously obtained planning permission from Leicester City Council to install four charging bays at the site, but subsequently submitted a revised application, upping the number to half a dozen, with the authority approving these plans, too.

The reapplication was made to “optimise the provision of EVC [electric vehicle chargepoints] at the site and respond to increasing demand for electric vehicle infrastructure”.

Earlier in the year Shell made a similar decision, submitting an updated planning application to Warwick District Council seeking permission to install six, rather than four EV bays.
