Parcel locker firm Yeep has introduced 700 solar-powered parcel lockers, a move the firm describes as “a major step forward in sustainable last-mile delivery”.
The firm says the lockers feature “integrated solar panels and long-life rechargeable batteries that eliminate the need for replacements, reducing maintenance while extending their lifespan”.
Only “relatively level solid ground” is required for installation and the lockers have no need for groundworks, boosting their appeal to forecourt firms, which have underground tanks, cabling and pipework to consider.
Yeep says its network of solar-powered lockers is “the UK’s first”. It is the latest initiative from the firm as it seeks to grow its presence in the competitive parcel-locker sector. Earlier in the year the company announced a partnership with DPD that will see it roll our 8,000 lockers over the next five years.
Noël Shapton, Yeep’s co-founder and chief executive, comments: “By harnessing solar power, we’ve created lockers that are not only convenient and sustainable, but truly self-sufficient”.
He adds “We’ve already proven that battery-powered lockers can drive footfall and simplify deliveries – now we’re proving they can do it while running entirely on renewable energy.”
