Chargepoint provider Zest has opened two new ultra-rapid EV charging hubs, one in Leicester, and one in Birmingham.
The Leicester site is on Uppingham Road to the east of the city and features 10 charging bays capable of delivering electricity to cars’ batteries at speeds up to 300kW.
The firm’s new Birmingham hub is located in the city’s Jewellery Quarter. This location features 16 bays, again with speeds up to 300kW, and is located on formerly derelict land.
The Birmingham hub also features InPost parcel collection and drop-off lockers, as well as a totem sign displaying the price of electricity.
Both hubs are open to members of the public as well as commercial drivers using the Allstar app, while prices are set at a competitive 65p per kWh.
Robin Heap, Zest’s chief executive, comments: “Supporting the shift to electric vehicles is essential to improving urban air quality and addressing the climate change. Infrastructure like this helps make that shift more practical, for more people, more quickly.”
These two hubs are significant milestones for Zest, which is one of the UK’s faster growing chargepoint providers and has a track record of working closely with local authorities – though the firm is not always successful in its endeavours, having recently been refused planning permission to instal a hub on a narrow residential mews in Hastings.
