Fuel and convenience retailer The Fresh Food Centre Group in County Down, Northern Ireland, has invested in Orbis Tech’s point-of-sale, web-based back-office head-office software solution to gain better control over its outlets.

Additionally, the decision was made to choose Orbis to assist in transforming the in-store customer experience with faster payments, built-in digital signage, loyalty and gift cards.

With locations across County Down, its outlets are known for being retail destination venues with a difference; a large format supermarket offering fuel, convenience retail and local fresh produce for the surrounding community.

Phase one of the Orbis roll out was its head-office Castlewellan outlet which went live in the spring this year, which included a seven-lane Orbis checkout with integrated payment solutions, accepting credit, debit and all fuel cards, connectivity to weighing scales and Orbis Mobile POS for ice cream sales.

Orbis interfaces directly to Nisa Retail for ordering, electronic delivery notes, product file and promotion updates. The group is also making full use of the Orbis Site Assistant, an Android handheld-based terminal application to complement back-office store operations.

“Fresh Food Centre tills perform thousands of sales each week across our local community outlets, delivering fuel, retail convenience and food to go items,” said Michael Johnson, director at Fresh Food Centres.

“We chose Orbis Point-of-Sale and the back-office and head-office systems because it is capable of supporting our business today and it’s continued growth as we expand and diversify into hospitality space with the Hillyard Hotel a licensed guesthouse, restaurant and bar in Castlewellan town centre. I have not seen a single all-in-one EPOS platform out there which has the diversity and functionality to manage from till to head-office all the things we cater for.’’

“We are delighted to win this contract and welcome Fresh Foods Centres onto the Orbis platform.  Orbis Tech is focused on helping Fresh Food Centres continue to deliver the success that has made it an important retailer at the heart of its local community,” said Jon McCarthy, country manager UK and Ireland at Orbis Tech.

“The Orbis software for fuel, retail and hospitality is designed to work seamlessly on one platform with the POS, BOS and HOS running the busy in-store and forecourt environment.

“With this deployment and the forthcoming installation of Orbis at the Fresh Food Centres supermarket at Warrenpoint, Fresh Food Centres is future-proofing its retail business through technology to meet today and tomorrow’s needs.’’
