Staff at a Rontec forecourt in Sedgefield, County Durham had an unexpected delivery last Sunday – a seven pound five ounce baby boy.

Mother Sarah Frost was being driven to hospital in Stockton by her partner and sister after her waters broke early during a family meal – but they were forced to turn into the Esso petrol station as she had begun to give birth.

Employees and customers brought towels and t-shirts as Frost’s sister started to deliver the baby on the back seat of the car, before paramedics arrived to help, according to the BBC.

Hospital staff later named the boy “the Esso garage baby”.

Mother and baby were reported to be doing well.

Rontec operations director Nick Lowe says ”the team did a great job in dealing with the situation until the ambulance arrived and everyone rallied around to support”. He adds: ”Happy to see that mum and baby are doing well.”
