The Green Welly Stop is a popular location for hikers, holidaymakers and motorcyclists

The Green Welly Stop, in Tyndrum, Stirlingshire, one of Scotland’s best-known roadside locations, is on the market after more than 60 years in family ownership.

The Highland business, shaped by three generations of the Gosden, Wilkie and Robertson families, includes two cafés, shops and a fuel station.

Opened by Les and Betty Gosden in 1965, it has become a landmark stop-off for holidaymakers, hikers and motorcyclists.

Edward and Fiona Robertson are the remaining managing agents, although Lesley Wilkie continues to play an active role in the business.

The Robertsons say that they are looking for a buyer who will build on the site’s “proud heritage and secure its future”.

They add: “Deciding to place our family business on the market after 61 adventure-filled years has been one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make. While this is an emotional moment for us, we know the time is right to begin the next chapter of our lives.

“The Green Welly Stop has never just been about the buildings – it’s always been about the people.”
