James Lowman, the former chief executive of the Association of Convenience Stores, has become a consultant to fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) communications agency Mercieca.
Lowman left the ACS in March after a near three-decade long career at the trade association, and 20 years at its helm.
During his tenure Lowman led high-impact lobbying campaigns shaping policy on product regulation, trading hours, employment and planning. He has given evidence to parliamentary committees, spoken at party conferences and policy forums, and has regularly represented the sector across national media.
Mercieca – whose client list includes Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Perfetti Van Melle and Echo Falls (Accolade Wines) – says that Lowman brings valuable expertise to the agency, helping it ”to deliver standout, insight-led campaigns” for some of the UK’s leading FMCG brands.
“We’re proud to welcome James to the agency at an important point in our growth,” says Mercieca’s managing director, Rod Taylor. ”With nearly 30 years’ experience working with retailers, suppliers, the media and government, James brings a unique depth and breadth of knowledge that will strengthen the advice and support we provide to clients.”
James adds: “Mercieca has supported some of the UK’s leading brands to communicate, engage and influence through trade and consumer media and creative work. I’m really looking forward to working with the team and I hope to add my knowledge and perspective to build on the superb skills and experience already within the company.”
