InPost: 15,000 locker milestone reflects a shift in how parcel delivery is expected to work

Parcel locker provider InPost says fast-growing demand from forecourts has helped it reach 15,000 automated parcel machines (APMs) in the UK.

The company, which claims to be the UK market leader, says the milestone reflects changing consumer expectations about the reliability of home e-commerce deliveries. According to InPost, one in three parcels fails on first delivery attempt, while two in five consumers miss at least one delivery every month.

It comes as the company, which started in Poland, continues its expansion across Europe, with 95,000 APMs and pick-up and drop-off points in nine countries. As well as forecourts, InPost lockers are in supermarkets, retail parks, transport hubs and residential areas.

InPost says lockers create value for retailers, with 78% of those using one of the machines making a purchase in the store.

“Reaching 15,000 lockers is a significant milestone, but it also reflects a bigger shift in how delivery is expected to work,” says Paul Selvey, network director at InPost UK. “For years, delivery has been designed around cost and convenience at checkout, not around what actually works for the people receiving parcels. That’s why failure rates are so high, because the system was never built around the end user.

”When consumers are given real choice, behaviour changes fast. More control, more certainty, delivery that fits around how people actually live. That’s what out-of-home enables and why it’s no longer a niche preference. It’s becoming the expectation.”

The company is one of several prominent APM providers in the UK forecourt sector. Others include Amazon, Royal Mail, and Yeep!
