A petrol station in Cheshire had to be closed on Monday evening after about 200 litres of diesel was spilt on the forecourt.
Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service were alerted to the spill, at Manchester Road Northwich, just before 9pm and one fire engine was despatched.
A fire service spokesman said: “The spillage was believed to be due to a defective cap on a vehicle.
“Around 180 litres drained into the interceptor pit and the crew removed the remaining diesel into the pit and covered it all with sand.
“The petrol station remained closed until site managers attended.”
