Developers have applied for planning permission for a service area on the A1 at Newark in Nottinghamshire that would include a petrol filling station and parking for more than 140 vehicles.
A planning statement by Rapleys says it has been prepared on behalf of a developer, Alliance GW Ltd, and the landowners Gregory and Mrs O’Reilly. Welcome Break Services Ltd is also named on the front page of the document, but does not appear anywhere else.
The proposals are for a 1.9ha site just off the A1 and B6326, and the planned Newark Southern Link Road junction, linking the A46 with the A1, will be located to the west of the site.
The application is for a 969sq m petrol filling station forecourt building with a drive thru wrapping around the eastern side of the building. To the west of the forecourt, fronting the building, would be six-pump islands housed under a canopy.
A standalone 145sq m drive-thru kiosk is proposed on the north west part of the site together with associated parking.
Separate HGV fuelling facilities are located towards the south western boundary.
There would be parking for 99 cars including 24 electric charge points together with space for 42 HGVs and two coaches.
In its conclusion Rapleys’ document states that advice from local planning officers at the pre-application was: “It is likely that the local planning authority would be in a position to support an application of this nature subject to the design considerations and appropriate justification through the supporting documents.”
