Naomi Short (pictured centre, facing the camera) hosts first informal gathering of Women In Fuel

The first gathering of the Women In Fuel networking group took place at The Forecourt Show in the NEC this week.

Glasses were raised at the informal get together with representatives from Greenergy, Edge Petrol, Madic, MyAutomate, and Attenda.

Co-founder Naomi Short, senior relationship manager at mobility payments specialist Attenda, says that she is confident now that there is an appetite for the group.

Currently there are around a dozen women working in the petrol retailing industry who have signed up.

Vicky Hennessy, chief executive of Penny Petroleum is one of them. The day before Hennessy had been speaking about the importance of women in senior roles supporting female colleagues to move up the ranks.

She said on a panel about female leaders shaping convenience: “I feel that I am in such a great, privileged position. I can be an advocate for my female colleagues. I have an influence over their careers, and I am absolutely all over that within our business.”

Short says that she is now looking at how the group can come together next with break-outs at industry events.

“It is very early days, but everyone seems really positive about having a group which provides resources and information for women to progress in their roles,” says Short.

To arrange the next meet-up, she is working with co-founder Clare Lafferty, sales director of MyAutomate and its Petrol Prices app, to create a poll to see which events members of the group will be attending.
