From Keira Knightley and Joe Wilkinson falling in love over a block of Sussex Charmer cheese, to the Big Friendly Giant being an unexpected guest for Christmas, the annual quest to be the most talked about festive grocery advert is well underway. Now forecourt operator Sewell on the go has joined the fray.
Working with students from Hull College it has developed its own heart-warming creative which within days of posting online received over 10,000 interactions on Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram
The video, filmed at its Chanterlands store at Hull, one of 12 the business runs in the area, has the strapline: “Here for what you need or want this Christmas.”
A couple arrive at the forecourt, with the driver saying he is just getting some petrol but then goes on to leave his partner waiting as he fills a basket with mince pies, wrapping paper and prosecco.
During his browsing he bumps into other customers from Sewell on the go’s charity partners, who are all name-checked, as well as Santa topping up on Co-op festive snacks.
The film is also shown on digital displays that Sewell on the go has invested in at its forecourts both outside and in the shop.
According to finance director Alex Mortimer, its aim is to connect with the local community. “It’s the kind of thing we like to do, working closely with students from Hull College, giving them experience of a real project to work on,” she says.
“It’s our best one yet with representatives from Hull Animal Welfare Trust, Fitmums and Pride among those featured. It’s just something a little bit different that we can do to build our profile locally.”
