MFG intends to have EV charging at all of its suitable locations by 2035

Motor Fuel Group (MFG) is offering drivers Morrisons loyalty points when they charge their vehicles at its growing electric network.

The Top 50 Indie has ambitions to install over 3,000 ultra-rapid chargers at 500 of its 1,300 sites by 2030.

As part of a £400m EV infrastructure programme, it is installing 250 additional ultra-rapid EV charging bays – delivering up to 150kW, 300kW and 400kW of power – at Morrisons forecourts in 2026.

From March 17, the five Morrisons More Points loyalty points earned for every £1 spent charging, will be redeemable at Morrisons supermarkets, although not initially at the Morrisons Daily shops found on MFG forecourts.

The move follows MFG’s £105 million investment to upgrade the 337 Morrisons forecourts it acquired, alongside associated sites, in April 2024: giving the supermarket the status of having more EV charging bays than any other food retailer. Currently, 273 Morrisons sites have 618 charging bays, including 174 ultra rapid bays at 24 of those locations.

The latest move to encourage EV drivers to use MFG’s current 1,962 charging bays reflects both companies’ commitment to “enhancing the EV driver experience and supporting the UK’s energy transition”, says MFG. It intends to have EV charging at all of its suitable locations by 2035.

“This collaboration is another step forward in our commitment to creating a seamless, customer-focused EV charging experience,” says Martin Symes, EV director at MFG.

“With the addition of 250 ultra-rapid charging bays this year at Morrisons sites, we are proud to play a leading role in building the infrastructure required for the UK’s electric future.”

Matt McLellan, group customer, marketing and data director at Morrisons, adds: “We are always looking for new ways to give our customers more value through the Morrisons More programme, and this partnership with MFG does exactly that.

“As more drivers make the switch to electric vehicles, it’s important that we continue to evolve our loyalty offering to reflect how our customers live their lives. By linking EV charging with Morrisons More Points, we’re making it even easier for customers to benefit from choosing Morrisons - whether they’re filling their fridge or powering their car.”

Morrisons took a 20% stake in MFG at the time of selling its petrol stations and associated sites last April.
