MFG’s growing EV charging network gained eight new bays this week with the opening of a new hub in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.
The chargers reside at MFG’s Riccarton Road forecourt, which sits on the Bellfield Interchange roundabout joining the A71, A76 and A77 main roads. All eight bays offer 150kW ultra-rapid charging.
The installation forms part of the firm’s £400m commitment to EV charging, with 3,000 bays planned by 2030 and over 2,000 already operational across 1,300 sites, making MFG one of the biggest players in the ultra-rapid (150kW+) chargepoint world.
And, while MFG was one of several providers to recently introduce discounted electricity in a bid to attract customers, its road-fuel and convenience sales can help mitigate against some of the difficulties chargepoint operators are face,
The private-equity-backed company also owns, rather than leases the land from which its chargers operate, reducing overheads compared to some providers.
Martin Symes, MFG’s EV director, says the new Kilmarnock hub demonstrates the firm’s “commitment to delivering reliable, convenient ultra-rapid EV charging facilities to communities nationwide”.
