MFG and Raw Charging are marking World EV Day, which is intended to promote awareness of and interest in electric cars.
MFG is highlighting that it has opened 243 new EV bays across 39 sites so far this year, bringing its total network to 1,450 chargers, all capable of delivering electricity at speeds of 150kW of more. This represents 10% of the UK’s rapid and ultra-rapid network – an achievement made possible by the £400m the firm earmarked for charging back in 2021.
Raw Charging, meanwhile, is celebrating by offering free electricity at over 400 locations, with all its slower AC chargers, and a selection of DC rapid and ultra-rapid sites, being free to use.
Raw specialises in ‘destination’ charging, installing devices at locations such as shopping centres. All AC connectors are free for the day, while the selected rapid and ultra-rapid sites offering free charging include Ravenside Retail Park, Chesterfield, Hinchingbrooke Business Park, and seven Greene King pub. The offer ends at 23:59 on 9 September.
MFG’s EV director, Martin Symes, says World EV Day “is a great moment to reflect on MFG EV Power’s achievements this year”, adding that the firm is “proud to be delivering a nationwide network, powering the nation’s journeys today, and building the infrastructure it needs for tomorrow”.
Raw Charging’s chief executive, Jason Simpson, says the day “is a chance to celebrate how far the UK has come and to make the switch to electric feel that little bit easier”.
In other EV charging news, Lidl has dropped the price of electricity at its chargers, and drivers with a Lidl Plus loyalty card now pay 59p per kWh, a 3p discount.
Osprey, meanwhile, has just launched Osprey Go, which allows drivers to plug in and walk away, leaving their car charging without having to do so much as tap a contactless card. The system requires customers to register their vehicle once using the Osprey app, and relies on a technology called Autocharge, which allows a chargepoint to read a vehicle’s unique identifying number.
