The Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) is investigating the hand car

wash trade for its suspected links with organised crime. David Charman, chairman of the Car Wash Association, told Forecourt Trader: "Someone from SOCA saw our website and contacted me for information. They said hand car wash operations had been linked with organised crime because they are generally cash businesses with a transient trade, often using illegal immigrants to run them. It’s good news for our trade as I’m sure SOCA has more power and resource than some of the other agencies." Charman added that the Association needs more information about suspected illegal operations. "We need to hear from petrol retailers about any hand car wash sites they think are illegal and why."
