Firefighters were able to tackle the blaze and prevent it spreading to the forecourt

West Midlands Fire Service last night attended a petrol station in Birmingham after a fire broke out in the site’s office.

The brigade spent around three hours at the Esso Merestones Asda Express filling station in the Acocks Green suburb of the city, having arrived on site at around 1am.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus to facilitate their entry into the shop, where they tackled the blaze with hoses pumped by a fire engine.

A spokesperson for the brigade told Birmingham Now:

“Shortly after 1.20am on Monday 2 November, we responded to Fox Hollies Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham.

“A fire engine from Hay Mills and a fire engine from Highgate attended, the first arriving within five minutes of being mobilised.

“This was a fire affecting an office space in a shop, adjoining a petrol station.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus isolated the petrol pumps and electrics, and extinguished the fire. The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

“We damped down and left this incident at 4.22am.”
