Gridserve seeks to “inspire the next generation of climate activists” with mobile game aimed at children
Chargepoint company Gridserve has launched a mobile-phone-based quiz game aimed at six to nine-year-old children that the company hopes will “inspire the next generation of climate activists”.
The firm’s ‘play as you charge’ initiative is aimed at the offspring of EV drivers. As well as hoping to encourage them into climate activism, the firm intends for the quiz to keep kids occupied while families wait for their cars to charge.
The game features characters named Serge the battery (seen above) Ray-Ray the sun, Volta the solar panel and E-Vie the chargepoint. Children playing the game will search Gridserve hubs looking for these characters, which are displayed next to a QR code.
Children then scan the QR code and are taken to a website that will deliver “a unique gaming atmosphere and narrative”. A quiz then follows, which will unlock the character in question. Once the quiz questions are answered correctly, a prize can be redeemed from Gridserve staff.
The company says the quiz demonstrates its ‘sun-to-wheel energy ecosystem’, which sees solar power used to charge car batteries.
Gridserve’s head of customer experience, Kirsty Tarbuck, comments: ”This new game helps children understand the power of sustainable energy in a playful way — reminding them that small changes, like their mum and dad driving an electric car, can make a big difference for tomorrow.”
Jon Mason, founder and managing director of Jollywise, which developed the game for Gridserve, says he wants the game ”to inspire the scientists and climate activists of the future, adding: “Younger generations are incredibly receptive to the climate emergency, and often more informed than their parents when it comes to doing their bit. Businesses need to catch up and show this future generation of customers that they care.”
