’No’ to display ban

 

 

Thousands of retailers have told the government to stop the tobacco display ban in an unparalleled response to a rallying call from the Association of Convenience Stores. The Stop the Display Ban postcard campaign was launched by the ACS in August to give retailers a collective voice in showing government that they do not want a ban on tobacco displays. The campaign prompted more than 6,000 official correspondence mentioning tobacco displays to the government. The majority came from the ACS postcard campaign.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has published the Electric Car Guide to help motorists make more informed decisions when purchasing an electric vehicle.

 

Presented in an easy to understand Q&A-style format, the free-of-charge publication addresses some of the common queries relating to electric vehicles including information about batteries, charging, vehicle performance, on-the-road cost, government incentives and safety.

 

 

Infrastructure go-ahead

 

 

The government has given the go-ahead for 24 road and public transport schemes, including major upgrades to relieve congestion at eight motorway locations through either widening or managed motorway schemes, and a single-carriageway bypass to ease congestion in Sefton and improve access to the region’s motorway network.

 

 

Best and worst roads

 

 

Mobil 1 has named the A82 Glasgow to Fort William as the best road in Britain, and M1 Sheffield as the worst, following an investigation into road conditions and the physiological effects of highways on drivers. The most stressful road is the M60 Greater Manchester ring road.
