Motorway services operator Welcome Break has published its year-end results for 2025, revealing the firm made £142m on turnover of £1.2bn.
The firm says its £142m EBITDAR (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortisation, and restructuring or rent costs) last year represents a “record” figure, and was driven by “resilient growth”, strong customer satisfaction and an upswing in the number of drivers stopping at its 62 service areas.
The firm, which is owned by Irish operator Applegreen, itself majority owned by US private-equity firm Blackstone, says customer satisfaction from people visiting its sites was 86%.
Welcome Break, which employs over 6,000 people and serves 85m customers a year, notes that “customer demand remained resilient” last year despite “ongoing economic pressures” in the wider economy, with its catering brands doing particularly well.
Last year the company signed a “landmark” 75-year lease extension with the government for eight key motorway sites, and also opened a new £55m MSA on the M1 by Rotherham.
John Diviney, the firm’s chief executive, called 2025 “another strong year”. He added: “We remain confident in our long-term growth prospects and are committed to delivering the best possible experience for the millions of customers who visit us each year.”
