Elite Garages, which operates nine filling stations, has significantly increased its presence in the vehicle-repair sector, buying 14 former ATS Euromaster branches.

Elite previously operated two dozen tyre and service centres, with the ATS acquisition seeing its portfolio grow to 38 branches. The firm also has a Morrison’s Daily, a tyre wholesale arm and a series of commercial and residential properties.

The new branches are spread across the south of England and include sites in Winchester, Hants; Ashford, Kent; and Aylesbury, Bucks.

The deal follows Michelin-owned ATS Euromaster’s decision to wind down its 152 UK branches, which employed around 700 staff, following challenging trading conditions.

Elite’s acquisition of 14 sites will see 61 members of staff transferred over to the firm’s expanded business under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, or TUPE.

The firm’s managing director, Richard Whittemore, said the deal “marks a significant milestone for our family business”, and that the company will “work closely with ATS Euromaster to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for all employees”. He added that Elite has “grown considerably” in recent years, and is “incredibly grateful to the many colleagues who have contributed to our success”.

A further 35 ATS workshops are set to be sold to Formula One Autocentres, but the fate of the remaining 103 branches remains unknown.
