GS1 UK, a not-for-profit supply chain standards and solutions organisation, has launched a new online resource to raise awareness of the new GS1 DataBar bar code due to be introduced as a global standard in 2014.
The new bar code will be used throughout the retail sector and GSI UK says all sites need to start to prepare for its introduction. GS1 UK, which has been working with the ACS on the project, recommends that all sites check their scanning equipment to ensure that it can scan GS1 DataBar to benefit from faster customer service and better stock control. The new online resource can be found at www.gs1uk.org/Databar/default.aspx.
The company says GS1 DataBar can be used on small or irregularly-shaped items such as fresh, loose produce and will allow far more information (for example, expiry dates) within the bar code.
