Signage specialist Xmo Strata has consulted professional pilots about how its health and safety procedures can be made even tighter.
Steve Martin, (pictured above) managing director for the company which provides specialist sign installation and maintenance services across the UK, says the aviation industry can teach other industries a lot about how to manage and reduce risk. The firm is now developing flight-deck style checklists for its engineers and electricians. They frequently work at height, using equipment and cranes to move items, and much of their work is done in ‘hazchem’ environments, such as petrol forecourts.
Senior flying instructor Fiona McWhinnie (also pictured) of Cabair, one of the UK’s leading flying schools, talked Martin through the extensive checklists which pilots take for granted.
Xmo Strata has won several customer awards for health and safety, as well as the Excellence in Training and Development category of the Kent Business Awards.
