Gerry Welsh (pictured at the Forecourt Trader Awards): forecourt retailers might want to invest now in the fight against carbon emissions

The unstoppable move to alternative fuels and electric vehicle charging will be central to the Forecourt Trader Summit talk by Gerry Welsh, head of emobility at Certas Energy.

Welsh plans to share some news about future fuels and lower carbon energy opportunities from the supplier, which operates 100 company-owned, Gulf-branded sites, and serves a further 400 dealer-run Gulf forecourts.

He will explain why forecourt retailers should invest now in the wider movement to reverse climate change.

Welsh will also talk about Evolo, a recently introduced business division of Certas Energy, which markets itself as helping businesses ”on their energy transition journey” and includes EV chargepoints and solar panels.

Welsh is joined by his colleague Gareth Payne, head of HSE and engineering - roadside services at Certas Energy, who will be taking part on the industry challenges panel on subjects including rising forecourt crime. Also on that panel will be Bruce Nichol, operations director at the British Oil Security Syndicate (BOSS), retailer Ben Lawrence of Lawrence Garages, and the PRA’s executive director Gordon Balmer.

Other highlights include a presentation from BP’s Sonya Adams, vice president mobility and convenience retail in the UK, who will discuss BP’s transformation from an international oil to “integrated energy” company and what that means for its UK forecourts. Adams, who has spent 20 years with the business, will also outline the business’s latest propositions, and discuss the challenges the sector is facing.

Also, exclusive research will be revealed into what forecourt customers and independent retailers are thinking, by Lumina Intelligence, the insights division of Forecourt Trader’s publisher William Reed. And we will be sharing a video of the food to go business at Spar Mallusk, presented by Henderson Retail’s retail director Mark McCammond.

The Forecourt Trader Summit takes place at The Belfry near Sutton Coldfield on Tuesday 27 February.
