McLaughlin Coal and Solid Fuels has applied for planning permission to knockdown and rebuild its A&N Fuels NI Ltd business at Mullenan in Londonderry, close to the NI/Irish border.
The application to Derry City and Strabane District Council seeks to demolish the existing shed, office and canopy. In its place it hopes to construct a new solid fuel storage shed; another new solid fuel storage shed, this time with a takeaway coffee hatch; a new filling station with four pumps and canopy along with associated underground fuel tanks, site works and connection to existing services.
A&N Fuels NI ltd is described on social media as a cash and carry solid fuel drive-thru, selling a range of coal and self-feeding burners for retail and wholesale.
McLaughlin Fuels has been importing and distributing coal and solid fuels since the 1940s. It imports, manufactures, stocks, pre-packs and supplies all types of smokeless solid fuel throughout Ireland.
