Top 50 Indie EG Group have submitted plans to knock down an office building in Cleckheaton to make way for a petrol station, shop and drive-thru.
The scheme would see the demolition of a three-story building on Centurion Way, near Chain Bar at junction 26 of the M62.
It has been submitted to Kirklees Council by EG Group Ltd, with a accompanying documents claiming that the building is “redundant and no longer viable as an office building”.
The plans state that the principal function of the proposed site “is to provide fuel to motorists at this key location on the strategic highway network close to the Chain Bar Roundabout. Here, the A58 links with the M62, M606 and A638.
”In addition to the primary use, an ancillary food offering is proposed served by a drive-thru lane. This will provide a key service to motorists and assist their amenity and welfare. The unit is modest in size and will be constructed of high-quality modern materials.”
It says the uppermost element of the canopy roof is semi-transparent, and will look smaller in the street scene as a result.
It will feature 24 parking spaces and create around 25 jobs. The plans say the scheme ”will provide an attractive and modern-looking petrol filling station unit. The building will consist of a modern palette of materials. Glazing will maximise natural surveillance across the proposed forecourt, thus discouraging crime and anti-social behaviour.”
An initial target date for a decision on the plans has been set for September 16.
