A filling station and convenience store on the outskirts of Louth, Lincs, has found a new owner, having been with its previous custodians for 16 years.
The Windmill Garage sits on the A1031 in the village of Saltfleet, close to Grimsby, Mablethorpe and a number of holiday parks.
The forecourt was sold for an undisclosed sum, though it had been listed by Christie & Co with an asking price of £795,000.
The previous owner, Adrian Major, bought the site in 2011 and, now ready for retirement, has sold it on to Benny and Reena Poulose, who already operate a number of convenience stores.
Major comments: “I was a petrol tanker delivery driver for 23 years delivering to Windmill Garage weekly and, after losing our 18-year-old son, James Major, of the grenadier guards in Afghanistan, we decided to relocate and purchase the garage naming the company Guardsman Major 12 Ltd after our son.
“We have had 16 years running the garage and we must say it has been enjoyable. Thanks to Christie & Co, we have now sold it to Benny, who will hopefully get as much enjoyment out of it as we did.”
Jacob Toon, an associate director with Christie & Co’s retail & leisure division at Christie & Co says: “I am delighted to secure the sale of Windmill Garage and Premier Stores on behalf of Adrian and his family. Thankfully, this sale means Adrian can now retire.
“I want to wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavours. Finally, I want to wish the best of luck to Benny and Reena on their first foray into the PFS market, something I know they will grasp with both hands and make a success of.”
