Firefighters had to rescue a driver who was trapped in their car after a collision on a forecourt in Devon.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service (DSFRS) were called to the incident at the BP/M&S Simply Food service station at Turks Head Lane in Honiton on Thursday February 2.

The fire crew found two cars had collided on the forecourt and one of the cars came to rest on its side, trapping the driver.

A statement from DSFRS said the drivers involved “had a lucky escape”, adding: “Luckily none of the fuel pumps were involved or damaged and the driver was safely escorted from their vehicle shortly after crews from Honiton and Ottery St Mary arrived and stabilised the vehicles.

“They were then left in the care of ambulance paramedics, being checked over, while fire crews made the vehicles and scene safe.”

The fire crew was able to leave after spending two hours at the site.
