Northern England Spar wholesaler James Hall & Co has been given planning approval for a new to industry forecourt in Bentham, North Yorkshire.

The family-owned business expects to begin construction at the now vacant rural location later this year, with the incoming petrol station having the go ahead for EV charging and a shop with solar panels.

Previously the site, just off the B6480, was home to Huws Gray building merchants. Once open it will create up to 30 part- and full-time jobs.

S&L Planning Consultants’ Deborah Smith, who submitted the application, says: “Projects of this nature are hugely important for rural communities and will also see a vacant site be transformed into a vital asset.”

Andrew Bangs, property and development director at Preston-based James Hall & Co, adds: “The project also supports Spar’s local community philosophy of having value on your doorstep, nurturing our neighbourhoods, and a focus on local sourcing where possible.”
