Sainsbury’s has announced it will be passing on today’s cut in fuel duty immediately.
Following the Chancellor’s announcement in his Spring Statement that he was cutting fuel duty by 5ppl from 6pm tonight, Sainsbury’s confirmed that from tonight it would be cutting its fuel prices by 6ppl, which includes a 1p reduction in VAT.
Simon Roberts, chief executive officer of Sainsbury’s, said: “We understand that the cost of living is a real challenge for many households and we are committed to helping our customers as much as we can. We welcome the Chancellor’s announcement today which will save motorists money and we are passing the cut to fuel duty to our customers at the pumps across every single one of our 315 forecourts from tonight.”
Sainsbury’s said it would continue to sell through stock it purchased while the higher fuel duty was in effect but it was lowering the price from tonight, so customers could benefit from the Chancellor’s announcement sooner.
