Around 60,000 litres of smuggled vodka and beer have been seized from two industrial units in Edmonton, north London, during a raid by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
Officers found 30,000 litres of White Goose and Krakus vodka ready for distribution in one unit and also seized illicit wine.
A search of a second industrial unit nearby led to the seizure of 31,000 litres of beer. The revenue evaded on these goods is around £450,000.
Peter Millroy, assistant director of criminal investigation for HMRC, said: “We have active and effective teams operating across London to deter and disrupt those dealing in illicit alcohol. We will seize the goods and people involved may face criminal prosecution. This illegal trade has a devastating effect on legitimate retailers, who have to compete with black market traders.
“We appeal to local people and businesses to join us in the fight against crime and encourage anyone with information on illegally imported goods, or tax evasion and fraud, to contact the Customs Hotline on 0800 59 5000.”
No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
