A man has been arrested after two burglaries at separate petrol stations in Croydon late on Wednesday February 25.
Police were called to reports of a break-in at the Shell garage in Coulsdon Road, Old Coulsdon at 11pm.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the suspect is believed to have smashed a glass entrance door and entered the garage shop before fleeing. The break-in activated a smoke-alarm, which caused the shop to fill with smoke.
Then 45 minutes later, police received another report of a burglary at the Esso garage in Selsdon Park Road, South Croydon, around five miles away.
While they were en-route to the second incident, officers stopped a blue Ford Fiesta in Gravel Hill – after a tip-off that the car was seen near the first burglary.
They arrested the driver of that car, a 30-year-old man, and he remains in custody at a south London police station.
Detectives from Croydon CID are investigating further.
