Thieves used a digger to rip an ATM machine from the wall of a forecourt shop near Newry in Northern Ireland early on Friday November 6.

The cash machine was stolen from the Emo-branded filling station on the Camlough Road, causing severe damage to the building.

Detective constable Sarah Lyttle said: “It is believed at this stage that heavy machinery was stolen from a building site on the Camlough Road at around 3.30am this morning, and then used to remove an ATM machine from the wall of a filling station nearby.”

The digger was then set on fire, blocking the Camlough Road in the city.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
