Big Media Group Ltd, the Milford Haven-based in-store marketing and media service, has gone into voluntary liquidation with debts of £672K.

Creditors include many petrol retailing operations – there were screens on 230 sites – the majority of which are owed an average of £2,000. The David Taylor Group, however, which has

screens on five sites, is owed at least £10,000, and possibly as much as £33K.

The Big Media package claimed to offer retailers a TV-quality mix of ’info-tainment’ on LCD screens strategically placed above the queuing zone in their stores. As well as carrying national and local advertising, the medium was said to be able to promote specific products and services and support in-store promotions, with retailers taking a share of the advertising revenue.

The company was also responsible for the launch of BigOil.net in 2004 but recently sold it to the Petrol Retailers’ Association for £400,000. Managing director Darren Briggs said at the time BigOil.net had been started with the sole aim of promoting fuel price transparency into the downstream petroleum market.
